***“When I started to look for a third silent film to score my only criteria was, having already done films in the War (Battleship Potemkin) and Horror (Nosferatu) genres, I wanted to find a new niche in which to work. Comedy and science fiction came to mind, but I opted to settle on the action/adventure genre, strangely, because I want to do a piece with more of a percussive element. It was not long after, that I spotted the original Tarzan of the Apes needing a musical makeover and so the stage was set. I decided to do a score that would hopefully reflect not only the spirit of TOTA, but also shed light upon what I considered to be some of the best and worst musical influences I tend to draw upon and how those relate to my past, present and I assure you, future work. Represented on TOTA are, at a minimum, my apparent obsessions with the dark and the dreary, the magical and mystical, the sun, and the beauty in broken glass.
