Bedroom guitar guru Marat Shainsky’s latest collection takes its title and autumnal mood from a 19th century Russian fairy tale about a duck with a broken wing unable to migrate with its flock and forced to weather the long leaden winter alone: Greyneck. Across 15 instrumentals the album sketches an amber light panorama of six-string minimalism with eddying riffs, wisps of synth, hushed percussion, and spatial FX, dusted in a honeyed haze.

Despite the isolated premise of their muse, the songs stir with warmth and color, a swirl of senses, seasons, and beauty found on the solitary path. Grey-skied guitar flights of mind as response to, and remedy for, troubled times in the darkening wildernesses of this world.

Mastered by Jared Carrigan.

Design by Britt Brown.
