The Gabys are a lower than low-key UK bedsit duo, too shy yet to set foot on stage, but their isolation has wrought gem after gem of minimalist cassette recorded melancholy. This is Velvet Underground-inspired electric folk music that can roll with 90s New Zealand greats like Dadamah and The Garbage & The Flowers but also shares parallels with current San Francisco lo-fi pop moodists like April Magazine, Cindy and Mister Baby. This is The Gabys second vinyl EP after a previous 7” on Fruits & Flowers and a cassette on Detroit’s All Gone Records and the four tracks here are over way too soon. There is slightly more space for the gorgeous vocals & melodies this time around but their trademark murky guitar sound is still intact.

The Gabys are an almost totally anonymous UK duo. They came to Fruits & Flower's attention via the ALL GONE tape label out of Detroit, who are always fishing around for sub-Xpressway lo-fi music. Lovely summery vocals are almost totally obscured by thick guitar chords and a distant throb that might be a floor tom, but it’s not clear. Immediately thoughts arose of The Garbage & the Flowers with their early VU-demo stylings and SF’s own April Magazine in hiss-drenched strum mode. If that sounds up one's alley, this EP brings four tracks of delightedly wasted pop for a listless afternoon.
