Veteran German experimentalist Ulf Schütte (Cloud Management, Phantom Horse, Datashock, etc.) mines a woozy, organic-mechanical mode of minimalism via his modular synth and field recordings solo vessel Soft Blizzards. Nasses Raster collects six recent works of liquid system designs, channeling his fascination with “boundary areas” music: between electronic and environmental, tone and float, hypnotic yet harmonically ambiguous. The translated titles allude to (while winking at) this muse of elemental flux: “Wet Grid,” “Frog Log,” “The Patience of the Pipes,” “Internal Pond.” Hints of Harmonia, Hassell, and digi-dub obscurities murmur in the mix, but ultimately Schütte’s touch skews more remote and elusive, miniature architectures of elevated synthetics, ambient futurism, and hushed teutonic funk.
