***"Welcome Strawberry will release their new album Desperate Flower at the end of the month, and I already have a feeling it’s gonna be soundtracking a lot of my beach days this summer. So far the Oakland dream pop/shoegaze band have shared “Violets & Honey” and the lead single “Memory Cube,” the latter of which we named one of the Best Songs Of The Week. Today Welcome Strawberry are sharing Desperate Flower‘s final single, which just so happens to be its title track and is also quite good. It has a nice melodic jangle inspired by bands like Apples In Stereo and Neutral Milk Hotel, but with a whole lot of guitar feedback and reverb. And at nearly five minutes long, it can easily put you in a very pleasant trance if you let it."—Abby Jones (Stereogum). Pressed on canary yellow vinyl.

***Welcome Strawberry follows their acclaimed cassette debut with a new vinyl offering. This new record marks a a departure from the whimsical and dreamy debut into darker and at times harder terrain. The record is still shoegaze, but it pulls more from goth, grunge, and even a little punk. For fans of Lush and Starflyer 59. Pressed on clear vinyl with black and red splatter.

***Maybe songs grow like flowers. You water them or let them wilt. Eventually you have enough to pick and make a bouquet, ugly thorny or not. Welcome Strawberry's statement of a debut draws musical influence from genres like shoegaze, psychedelic, and indie rock—however Cyrus, the brain behind the music, sources the record's primarily influences as film (especially those of Gregg Araki), literature (think My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Moshfegh), and nineties video games like Tekken. The results are carefully stitched fantasias for future and present daydreams. Welcome Strawberry is currently located in Oakland.
